THE BENEFITS OF CHIA SEEDS

Chia Seeds are an easy way to add high quality great nutrition to your diet. These gluten free little power packed seeds are filled with protein, fiber, antioxidants, iron, selenium, calcium and omega 3 fatty acids. The omega 3 content is very high and is a great alternative to taking fish oil if you do not like the fish burp after taste. Many people like to sprinkle them on top of their food such as fruit or Greek yogurt. I personally like to take a spoonful straight to my mouth or add them to my water bottle. If you add them to your water bottle make sure to shake it around a lot because the seeds like to stick to the bottom. If you decide to take a spoonful of chia seeds be prepared with some floss on hand because they like to get lodged in between your teeth. I like when I take a spoonful and find a few hidden chia seed treasures later in my day.

The reason why omega 3 content is so important is because they are anti inflammatory and can naturally reduce aches and pains and symptoms of arthritis. Diets rich in omega 3’s also have a significant role in improving brain function as well as decreasing your risk for cancer, heart disease and arthritis. You can think of them almost as a natural anti-inflammatory without the side effects of medication. Some potential side effects of chia seeds are gas and bloating because they have such a high fiber content and because they absorb water. Since they are anti-inflammatory they have blood thinning properties so if you should not be on blood thinners or if you have low blood pressure be aware. Chia is an easy and effective way to live a healthy lifestyle. As with any supplement it is always best to consult with your doctor before starting something that you are unsure of.
